Great Nut Hunt
Welcome
The hazel dormouse (Muscardinus avellanarius to give it its Latin name) has already disappeared from a large part of its range in England and is rare in most places where it still occurs.

To help plan better conservation action, we need to find out where dormice still occur, so we are asking for your help to find woods in England and Wales which still have dormice. Fortunately, it's not necessary to see these secretive animals to know that they're present as they leave signs of their presence in the form of carefully opened hazel nuts. This is what the Great Nut Hunt is all about.

Learn more about the dormouse and its lifestyle and then see if you'd like to help us with our survey.
